Background

I value the liberal arts education I received as an undergraduate at WLC. I see my career as a teacher and researcher to be a continuation of that traditional pursuit of learning, and I enjoy having discussions with students about literature, language, and culture.

Teaching and Scholarly Interests

I have taught a range of courses based on my interests, coursework, and research in these areas:

  • Medieval European literature
  • American literature
  • Crosscurrents in twentieth-century literature
  • Magical realism
  • Linguistics
  • Dramatic literature
  • Rhetoric

In addition, I have occasionally guided students in independent studies on topics including translation studies and Old English.

Scholarly Works

  • Scholarly conference papers delivered on the work of late-medieval authors including Chaucer, Gower, and the Pearl-poet
  • Biographical article published in Journal of the Lutheran Historical Conference on an enigmatic couple, a nineteenth-century German-American pastor and his wife

Service

  • Several years of service on WLC’s Academic Co-Curricular Committee, which promotes scholarly programming including the Campus Read and the Undergraduate Research Symposium
  • Assistance at church in roles ranging from outreach to audiovisual support
  • Board member, Dodge-Jefferson Counties Genealogical Society

Professional Memberships

  • Modern Language Association
  • Medieval Academy of America
  • American Translators Association
